OWINGS MILLS – The Ocean City Boardwalk is included in a new documentary that premieres on Maryland Public Television (MPT) on Wednesday, April 23 at 8 p.m.

The film, “Electric Road Trip,” is a 60-minute story of a cross-state trip – Oakland to Ocean City – in a totally electric vehicle (EV).

Along their winding 520-mile journey, filmmakers Jonathan Slade and Novia Campbell document their recharging stops, introducing viewers to interesting people, places, and attractions of the Free State. Slade and Campbell charge the auto at both public and private charging stations; meet other EV early adopters and hear their stories; chat with local historians about feats of transportation engineering; and ultimately evaluate the current EV infrastructure across the state.

Eating in roadside diners and checking out other local attractions while their car charges, the couple have fashioned “Electric Road Trip” to jump-start the conversation about transportation infrastructure for the 21st Century.

Electric Road Trip is the first MPT documentary shot entirely with GoPro cameras – in this case, four cameras mounted on a 2012 Nissan Leaf or hand-held by the couple.

During their stop in Ocean City, Slade and Campbell celebrate the end of their journey across Maryland by walking on the beach and visiting shops along the Boardwalk.

Electric Road Trip is one of several Maryland-focused documentaries airing between April 20-27 as MPT marks its 10th annual Chesapeake Bay Week® observance.

Slade and Campbell shot 42 hours of footage during their filming adventure, achieving about 60-80 miles of travel on each charge of their auto.
