Decatur Track Teams Strong in Home Meet

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity outdoor track teams scored well in its home meet last week with Seahawks finishing at or near the top in nearly every event.

On the boys’ side, in the 100, Tayevon Mills finished seventh. In the 110 hurdles, Sean Valasquez-Alvino finished fifth and Devon Mickels finished seventh. Kevin Herbert was strong in the longer distances, finishing fifth in the 1,600 and third in the 3,200. Jake Gaddis was seventh in the 1,600 and sixth in the 3,200, while Chance Coley was seventh in the 3,200. Jakhai Woodard came in fourth in the 200.

In the 300 hurdles, Ruben Ortega finished first, while Valasquez-Alvino was sixth. Zach Bernal finished second in the 400, while Johnny Lambrinos finished third. In the 800, Parker Harrington was second, Scott Berry was fourth, Gary Frick was sixth and Tyrese Milbourne was ninth. In the relays, Decatur finished first in the 4×800, third in the 4×400, and fourth in both the 4×200 and 4×100.

In the field events, Montez Green finished second in the discus, while Geraldo Navarro was sixth. Woodard came in fourth in the long jump, while Coley was ninth. The Decatur boys were strong in the pole vault as they almost always are with Brett Kim finishing second, Hyun Soo Chun finishing third, Evan Haas finishing fourth and Adam Kristick finishing fifth. Decatur swept the shot put event with Ernest Shockley finishing first, Navarro in second and Green in third.

On the girls’ side, Rebecca Lederman had a big day, finishing first in the 100, the 200 and the 400. Katie Hofman was fifth in the 200, Amari Harmon was second in the 100, Elizabeth Masters was sixth in the 400 and Lindsay Jones was eighth in the 400. In the 100 hurdles, Emily Cook was second and Emily Kolarik was fourth. Cook also finished second in the 300 hurdles, while Kolarik was fifth and Gabrielle Ortega was seventh.

In the 1,600, Alison Alvarado was second and Peyton Dunham was seventh. Alvarado also finished first in the 3,200, while Meya Chilengi was third and Emma Leo was fifth. In the 800, Elizabeth Masters took second, while Kayla Lorance was fourth. In the relays, the Decatur girls finished first in the 4×800, second in the 4×400, second in the 4×100 and third in the 4×200.

In the field events, Lisa Purnell was third in the discus, while Michelina Sanders was fourth and Takia Laong was eighth. Hannah Wilson finished first in the high jump, while Bethany Williams was fourth. Wilson also finished first in the pole vault. Amari Harmon was fifth in the long jump, while Jessica Wharton was sixth and Khalin Wise was ninth. In the triple jump, it was Williams finishing third, Wilson finishing fourth and Wise finishing sixth. Long was third in the shot put, while Purnell was fourth and Sanders was fifth.
