Decatur’s Godwin Named Player Of Year

BERLIN- The accolades kept coming last week for Decatur’s highly successful varsity basketball teams with a Bayside Conference Player of the Year Award for super sophomore Dayona Godwin.

Godwin was named the Bayside Conference Player of the Year last week. The sophomore guard was the catalyst for the Seahawks’ gaudy 18-2 regular season record and the magical run through the state 3A-South Region playoffs that ended with a 67-49 loss in the regional championship game. Crisfield High’s Greg Bozman was named Bayside Conference Coach of the Year after leading the Crabbers on their own run to the state’s 1A Final Four.

Godwin was also named to the First Team-All Bayside Conference team. Joining Godwin on the First Team were Pocomoke’s Dynaisha Christian and Wynesha Brittingham, along with Mardela’s Demyra Selby and Shakema Dashiell. Decatur’s junior forward Marina Jones, also a force inside for the Seahawks this year, was named to the Second Team-All Bayside Conference team last week. Joining Jones on the second team were Briana Cook of Mardela, Mekel Shockley of Snow Hill, Shayla Jones of Pocomoke and Amirah Caroline of Parkside.
