Ernestine Ates “Teeny”
SNOW HILL — Ernestine “Teeny” Godwin Ates, age 95, died Monday, February 10, 2014 at Harrison Snow Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Memphis, Tenn., she lived in Seat Pleasant, Md., moved in the late 1960’s to Casselberry, Fla. until 2001 and moved back to Maryland living with her children until 2010 before going into assisted living.

She was the daughter of the late Ernest and Blanche Godwin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse W. Ates, 2001, (retired Metropolitan Police), and son, James Ates. She is survived by her children, Phillip D. Ates of Glenn Dale, Md., Anne Marie (Robert) Drescher, Sr. of Centreville, Md. and Linda Ates (Marty) Moran of Berlin. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

A funeral was held at Gasch’s Funeral Home, P.A., 4739 Baltimore Ave., Hyattsville, Md. at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15, followed by a service at noon. Interment was in Washington National Cemetery in Suitland, Md.

Jean Marie Smith

OCEAN CITY — Jean Marie Smith, 57 of Ocean City, died Friday Feb. 14, 2014 at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

She was the fiancé of Joe Toner of Ocean City.

Jean was born Dec. 28, 1956 in Baltimore, the daughter of the late Harvey Stephen Smith and the late Ruth (Hohman) Smith

Ms. Smith had worked at the Eldersburg Inn and more recently at The Olive Tree and Coach’s Diner in Ocean City. She attended St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Ocean City, loved to play cards, Scabble and Bingo, liked to travel and enjoyed the beach, sun and sunsets.

Surviving in addition to her fiancé are brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Terry Smith of Randallstown, and numerous other family members and friends.

Services were held at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, P.A. 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, Md., 21784. Interment followed in Lake View Memorial Park in Sykesville. Online Condolences at www.burrier-queen.com
