Decatur Swimmers Strong in Regional Meet

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity swim teams turned in strong performances in the state 3A-2A-1A regional meet this week with the girls finishing first and the boys finishing third among the top schools in the region.

The Decatur girls finished first overall among the nine schools represented in the regional meet with 349 total team points. Easton was second with 275, while Kent Island finished third with 271. The Decatur boys finished third overall among the 10 schools in the regional meet with 285 team points. Queen Anne’s was first with 314, while Cambridge-South Dorchester was second with 305.

For the Decatur girls, Madison Tinus finished first in the 100-freestyle, while Marley Rakow was third. Carly Deickman was first in the 100-breaststroke, while Maria Zweifel was sixth. The Seahawk 200-meter freestyle relay team of Rakow, Zweifel, Molly Wooten and Rachel Bourne also finished first in that event. The 200-meter medley relay team of Deickman, Wooten, Tinus and Hailey Williams finished second, while the 400-meter medley team of Deickman, Rakow, Williams and Tinus also finished second.

Williams finished second in the 200-free, while Bourne was seventh. Deickman finished fourth in the 200-meter individual medley, while Zweifel was sixth. Tinus was second in the 50-meter free, while Bourne was sixth. Kailey Mihavetz was fourth in the 100-meter butterfly, while Wooten was fifth. Williams was second in the 500 free, while Zainab Mirza was fourth.  Rakow was sixth in the 100-meter backstroke, while Wooten was eighth.

On the boys’ side, Collin Bankert finished first in the 100-meter free, while James Hillyer was second. The 400-freestyle relay team of Bankert, Cory Campbell, Chris Poole and Hillyer finished second. The 200-meter medley relay team of Dalton Warren, Jr., Jake Lathroum, Tate Joseph and Michael Lott finished sixth. Campbell was fourth in the 200 free, while Lott was 11th. Joseph was sixth in the 200 IM. Hillyer was third in the 50 free, while Poole was eighth. Joseph was fifth in the 100-meter butterfly, while Matt Krall finished 12th.

Lott was eighth in the 500-free, while Lathroum was ninth. Warren finished fourth in the 100-meter backstroke, while Poole was fifth. Bankert came in fourth in the 100-meter breaststroke and Campbell was seventh. In the 200-meter freestyle relay, the team of Poole, Bankert, Campbell and Hillyer finished third.
