New Theme For Sunday’s Death By Chocolate Event

New Theme

OCEAN CITY – Death by Chocolate is taking participants back to the 1950s this year by having them seek out hints at local merchants that will have them name a number of tunes for a chance to win some fabulous prizes.

The 7th Annual Death by Chocolate will take place Sunday, Feb. 16, followed by a dining thrill at Sunset Grille. The event is free and open to the public.

CraZy LadyZ owners Jan Patterson-Hohman and Louise Reardon initially created the event to promote local businesses during the off season and it has now grown into a tradition for many.

“It is a wonderful event in the dead of winter for all of the merchants,” Patterson-Hohman said. “It is an opportunity to learn what your local merchants carry. There are a lot of new people that move to our area year after year, so the game has them get out to the merchants and see the services and products they offer. It is a really fun day; especially on a Sunday when any of the local merchants would love to have over 400 people walk through their place of business … you will have your fill of chocolate by the end of the day.”

Over the years, contestants have been coming from near and far to take part in the game. Last year, over 500 players arrived to participate and just as many are expected this year.

Every year Death by Chocolate takes on a different theme, and the theme in 2014 is “Name that Tune.” Game cards can be picked up at any of the participating merchants on the day of the event. All merchants will be open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

CraZy LadyZ advise players give themselves enough time as participants have to visit all of the stores, find the clue, figure out the tune and the artist, have their card validated, and indulge in chocolate.

Once the game card is completed, drop it off at the stop or bring it to Sunset Grille no later than 6 p.m. Participating businesses can be visited in any order.

Drawings will be held at 7 p.m. Players do not have to be present to win but do have to be 21 to enter the drawings due to the nature of some of the prizes.

There will be 19 drawings for over $2,000 in prizes that include a variety of gift certificates, services and merchandise provided by participating businesses.

Sunset Grille will be offering a special of buy one entrée and appetizer and get the second entrée free from 4 to 7 p.m. Drink specials start at 1 p.m. with $3.25 wine, $1.75 domestic beer, $4 orange crushes, and, of course, $4 chocolate martinis.

Call Sunset Grille to make a reservation under “Death by Chocolate.” For more information, call CraZy LadyZ 410-213-2085.
