SALISBURY — John Edward Whittington Sr., 85, of Salisbury passed away Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at Coastal Hospice at the Lake.

Born in Powellville, he was the son of the late John Roger Whittington and Nora Ellen Kelly Whittington.
“Ed” was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a member of the Moose Lodge, Eagle Lodge and Red Men’s Lodge. He also owned and operated dump trucks for many years before entering into a partnership known as S&W Auto Body for the past 40 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Frances Fisher Whittington; a son, John “Eddie” Whittington Jr. and his fiancée, Joyce Majors Hall of Salisbury; a sister, Margaret W. Jackson of Willards; a nephew, Keith Jackson and his wife, Denise, of Seaford; Lloyd Allen Davis, whom he raised as a son, and his wife, Connie, of Salisbury and their children, Pam Green, Lori Ann Roberts and Patrick Davis; and William Kenneth Shirey, whom he raised as a son and was also a co-owner in the business and his wife, Brenda, of Salisbury and their children, Brooks Shirey and Blake Shirey.
A funeral service was held Wednesday, Feb. 5, at 11 a.m. at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury with the Rev. Romie Payne officiating. There was a visitation Tuesday evening from 6-8 and also one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Interment followed at Powellville Cemetery.
