CAR Holds Installation
OCEAN CITY — The Coastal Association of Realtors® (CAR) recently held its 2013 Annual Meeting and Installation with more than 100 members in attendance. New officers and directors were officially instated into office for the association.
Officers installed included President Susan Megaree, RE/MAX Crossroads; President-Elect Vicki Harmon, Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage; Vice President Linda Moran, Prudential PenFed Realty; Secretary Joel Maher, Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage; Treasurer Don Bailey, Long and Foster Real Estate; and Immediate Past President Pam Wadler, Shamrock Realty Group.
During the installation banquet, Magaree said, “My motto is together we are better. As we grow our organization again I want to see us embrace an inclusive atmosphere. The more we connect with each other on a professional and personal level, the better our business, our communities and our families will prosper.”
Magaree was also honored as the leader of the 2014 Realtor Build by the Wicomico County Chapter of Habitat for Humanity.
New directors installed included one-year directors, Wes Cox, Sperry Van Ness Miller Commercial Real Estate, and Courtney Wright, Century 21 New Horizon; two-year directors, Joni Martin Williamson, ERA Bill Martin and Associates, and Lauren Bunting, Bunting Realty Inc.; and three-year directors, Brigit Taylor, ResortQuest Delaware and Darron Whitehead, Whitehead Real Estate Executives.
Outgoing directors include Chris Jett, Vantage Resort Realty; Neda Cox, Long and Foster Real Estate; and Terrance McGowan, Prudential Carruthers Realtors®.

BERLIN — Apple Discount Drugs, a locally owned Health Mart pharmacy, has announced exclusive offerings for Diabetes Awareness month throughout the month of November.
Diabetic patients can take advantage of classes, testings, special discounts on diabetes products and the promotion of the American Diabetes Association campaign, “A Day in the Life of Diabetes.”
Share your experiences and submit your photos and testimonials to the staff at Apple on how you live with diabetes. Apple will post these testimonials to the Apple Facebook page throughout the month of November.
“Being in the healthcare profession, we care about the health and well-being of the people in our community,” said John Motsko, Apple Certified Diabetes Educator®. “With the rate of people living with diabetes on the Shore almost doubling the national rate, we know there is a need for specialized diabetes services and counseling. The one-on-one and group counseling sessions are offered all year long by appointment. We know this disease doesn’t go away so we want to empower people to learn how to manage diabetes and live a better quality of life.”
Additionally, a number of special events are planned.
Diabetes Group Classes will be held on Nov. 13 and 20 from 1-4 and 5-8 p.m. at the Fruitland location. Pre-registration is required.
On World Diabetes Day, on Nov. 14, from 8:30-5:30 p.m., free blood sugar checks, free blood glucose log books and free diabetes identification cards will be issued.

Company Expansion
SALISBURY — Marshall Auctions, based in Salisbury, has purchased the Eastern Shore landmark Olsen’s Antique building located in Westover, Md. as the company expands its operation on Delmarva.
The 8,000-square-foot building located on the east side of Route 13 will serve as an auction gallery with monthly estate auctions on site. It will also be home to the moving company that operates as part of Marshall Auctions, according to company owner Doug Marshall.
“Purchasing this building in Somerset County positions us to really take advantage of the market in Somerset, Worcester, Accomack and Northampton counties,” he said. “We will be the leader in estate auctions and business liquidations on the Delmarva Peninsula … Our business continues to grow and diversify, with recent acquisitions in Delaware with Yorkshire Estates, breaking ground at the Amphitheater at Heron Ponds in Delmar, Md., and our home building division which is going strong.”

Hospital Announces Hire
BERLIN — Atlantic General Hospital announced that Andrew Fowler has joined the organization to serve as vice president of information services and chief information officer (CIO). Fowler will oversee the day-to-day information services support functions for Atlantic General Hospital and Health System as well as spearhead initiatives such as the PERKS Patient Portal and expansion of telemedicine services.
Fowler has more than 25 years of experience leading healthcare IT initiatives. Prior to Atlantic General, he was the chief information officer for Doctors Hospital, a 520-bed acute care facility in Edinburg, Texas. He also served as the CIO of Methodist –Le Bonheur Healthcare in Memphis, Tenn., and Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, N.Y.
He has led facilities through key challenges including Y2K planning and delivery, implementation of enterprise resource planning products, and most recently in the development and delivery of advanced clinical systems in direct support of current healthcare reform initiatives, including electronic medical records and patient portals.

Coordinator Hired
SALISBURY Maryland Capital Enterprises, Inc. (MCE) has announced that Lisa Twilley has been hired to assume the newly created position of outreach coordinator for the regional microenterprise development organization.
Twilley is tasked with coordinating MCE’s relations with its growing list of cooperating organizations, volunteers, and clients as well as networking, public relations, and internet activities.
“MCE is growing rapidly as we expanded to the Baltimore area” said Joe Morse, MCE’s Chief Executive Officer. “Lisa brings a great combination of experience, creative energy, and communication skills that will serve MCE well to maintain and grow our outreach effort.”
“I am excited about joining the team and working with MCE’s loyal and committed board members, partners, staff, and clients,” said Twilley.
