Decatur Girls Unleash Powerful Offense

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s girls’ varsity soccer team enjoyed a big week, sweeping three games to improve to 6-1 overall on the season and 3-1 in the Bayside South standings.
The week started with a 6-1 win over Snow Hill last Thursday. Jillian Petito led the offense with four goals and one assist, while Payton VanKirk and Lexi McDonough each contributed a goal and an assist. Mallory Vara also scored for the Seahawks, while Rachel Thorpe recorded seven saves.
The Decatur offense continued to fire on all cylinders the next day with a 10-2 win over Wicomico. Petito again led the way with two goals and two assists, while Brigitte Ardis also contributed two goals and two assists. Rebecca Lederman and Rachel Bourne each scored twice, while Erin Smith and Liz Rougcher each added single tallies.
On Monday, the Decatur girls stayed on a roll with an 11-0 shellacking of North Caroline. Lederman led the Seahawks with five goals, while Petito scored three times. Rougcher scored a goal and added an assist, while Lexi VanKirk and McDonough contributed single tallies.
