Arts Center Plans Diverse Month

OCEAN CITY — The public is invited to the opening reception for the October exhibits at the Ocean City Center for the Arts on Oct. 4, from 5-7 p.m.
Local photographers will compete for prizes in the annual Photography Show, including a special award in memory of Rick Maloof that will be presented by the Ocean Pines Camera Club. Photographer David Ganoe will be the judge for the show. Entry to the competition is open to all area photographers and works will be accepted on Sunday, Sept 29 from 2-4 p.m. and Monday, Sept. 30 from 10 a.m.-noon. Entry forms and guidelines can be found at www.artleagueofoceancity.org.
Both the visual and literary arts will be featured in the Galleria for the month of October. Evocative paintings by well-known Ocean City artists Randy Hofman and Pete Cosby will be displayed alongside interpretative poetry and prose by the Ocean City Writers Group.
The Ocean City Writers, a group which includes both professional and amateur writers, meets in the Ocean City Library on the second Thursday of each month. Members gather to share their work, offer constructive criticism, and, in general, encourage one another to attain personal writing goals. The O.C. Library Writers published their first chapbook, Watermark, in December 2012. They will present a full reading of the poetry included in the exhibit on Oct. 16 from 5-7 p.m.
The artist in residence for the month of October will be Paige Ruby, who is primarily a watercolor artist who paints local marine scenes, landscapes, florals abstract and mixed media pieces. Her work is painterly and realistic, but invites the viewer to define the details. Paige uses watercolor Inks which are very intense and brilliant in color, in some of her more non-traditional work. S
