BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity football team lost a tough one last weekend, falling to Queen Anne’s, 21-14, after turning the ball over on a late comeback attempt.
The Seahawks came out a little sluggish to start the game at home last Friday, fumbling on its first two possessions. Queen Anne’s took advantage, outgaining the Seahawks 171-49 in total yards in the first half and took a 14-0 lead into intermission.
Decatur then started to grind its way back into the contest, scoring on a one-yard run by P.J. Copes and a 12-yard run by quarterback Justin Meekins to tie the game at 14-14. Late in the fourth, Decatur was driving for a potential tying score, but turned the ball over again to kill its last drive. With Decatur having no timeouts remaining, the Lions were able to run out the clock and hold on for the 21-14 win.
With the loss, the Seahawks record fell to 1-1 on the young season after a 30-28 upset win over Indian River in the season opener. Decatur played Cambridge-South Dorchester on Thursday in a game played too late to be included in this edition.
