Berlin Incident Leads To Assault Charge

BERLIN — A Berlin man is facing first-degree assault and other charges after allegedly attacking a female resident during a domestic dispute late Wednesday night.
Around 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Berlin Police responded to a reported domestic assault in progress at a residence on William Street. Upon entering the residence, Berlin Police found an unidentified female victim unconscious on the floor. Officers also noticed a bedroom door frame had been broken.
The victim was able to tell police she had locked herself in the bedroom in an attempt to end an argument when the suspect, later identified as Daniel Harrington, 26, of Berlin, broke the door and struck her in the head. The victim told police Harrington allegedly struck her in the face several times with a closed fist and then choked her to the point she could not breathe. The victim was then transported to AGH for treatment.
While investigating the incident, Berlin Police located marijuana and a grinder in plain view in the bedroom. Harrington was arrested and charged with first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia. He had a preliminary hearing early Thursday morning and was ordered to be held on a $10,000 bond.
