OCEAN CITY — A Pennsylvania woman was charged with first-degree assault early Tuesday morning after allegedly threatening her boyfriend with a knife and holding it to his throat during a domestic situation in Ocean City after which she fled with her 18-month-old child.

Around 1 a.m. on Tuesday, Ocean City Police responded to the area of 47th Street for a reported assault involving a knife. The victim told police he had gotten into an argument with his girlfriend, later identified as Sibyl Curran, 32, of Coaldale, Pa. According to the victim, Curran had just arrived in Ocean City with her 18-month-old child.

During the argument, Curran allegedly brandished a folding knife and held it to the victim’s throat. The victim was able to wrestle the knife from Curran, who then grabbed her child and fled the unit. OCPD officers were able to locate Curran and her child nearby and took both into custody. During a search incident to the arrest, Curran was found to be in possession of a small amount of oxycodone.

Ocean City Police have charged Curran with first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, possession of a dangerous weapon with intent to injure and possession of oxycodone. She was taken before a District Court Commissioner and was then transferred to the Worcester County Jail on a $2,500 bond. Worcester County Department of Social Services was contacted and Curran’s child was released to the custody of the family member.

Bank Robber Still At Large

OCEAN CITY — The investigation continues this week into last week’s robbery of the Susquehanna Bank on 94th Street in Ocean City, although Ocean City Police said this week no suspect has been identified and no new information on the incident has come to light.

Around 10 a.m. last Wednesday, an unidentified suspect walked into the Susquehanna Bank on 94th Street and demanded money, received an undisclosed amount of cash and then casually walked back to his awaiting vehicle blocks away. It appeared the suspect parked his vehicle in the area of West Biscayne Drive and Artic Ave. in the nearby Little Salisbury neighborhood and approached the Susquehanna Bank on foot.

After robbing the bank shortly after 10 a.m., the suspect then casually walked south on West Biscayne Drive to his waiting vehicle. The suspect then traveled through Little Salisbury on West Biscayne to Pacific Ave., but was not seen again. The suspect is described as a white male with a thin and muscular build in his early to mid-20s. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a red baseball cap, a red polo shirt and khaki dress pants.

Wanted Man Caught

BERLIN — A Virginia man wanted in Salisbury was arrested on drug charges after a routine traffic stop in Worcester County last Friday.

Around 1 a.m. last Friday, a Worcester County Sheriff’s Deputy stopped a vehicle on Route 13 near Old Virginia Rd. for following another vehicle too closely. A check on the driver, identified as Marquise Drummond, 27, of Gargatha, Va., revealed he was wanted by the Salisbury Police department and also had a suspended Virginia driver’s license.

Drummond was placed under arrest, and a search incident to the arrest revealed a clear plastic baggie of powder cocaine. Drummond was charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance, CDS paraphernalia and CDS possession with intent to distribute. He was taken before a District Court Commissioner and was ordered to be held on a $5,000 bond.

Domestic Assault Arrest

WEST OCEAN CITY — A West Ocean City man was arrested last weekend after allegedly assaulting a woman before being found at a convenience store.

Around 9:30 a.m. last Saturday, a Worcester County Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched to West Ocean City for a reported domestic dispute. The deputy met with a female victim, who told police the suspect, identified as James Robert Main, 37, of West Ocean City, had physically assaulted her. A short time later, Main was located at the Royal Farms store in West Ocean City and was arrested and charged with second-degree assault. He was taken before a District Court Commissioner and was later released on a $25,000 bond.

Alleged Illegal Detained

BERLIN — A Virginia man arrested last week for driving in the Berlin area without a valid driver’s license has been detained by federal officials after failing to appear for a deportation hearing.

Around 7:15 a.m. last Sunday, a Worcester County Sheriff’s deputy patrolling in the area of Route 90 and Old Ocean City Blvd. stopped a vehicle for traveling east on Route 90 at a high rate of speed. The deputy determined the driver, identified as Carlos Lopez-Rivera, 39, of Alexandria, Va., did not have a valid driver’s license and the suspect was placed under arrest.

Lopez-Rivera was taken before a District Court Commissioner and was released on personal recognizance on the traffic charge. However, federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials placed a detainer on Lopez-Rivera for failing to appear for a deportation hearing. Lopez-Rivera was taken to the Worcester County Jail pending a disposition of his case with ICE.

Cab Fare Scofflaw

SALISBURY — A Virginia man was arrested on theft of services charges last week after paying just a few single dollar bills for a cab ride from Ocean Pines to Salisbury.

Around 4:20 a.m. last Wednesday, a Wicomico County Sheriff’s Deputy met with a taxi driver in Salisbury in reference to an individual who left his cab after paying just a couple of bucks for a ride from Ocean Pines. According to the driver, the suspect, identified as Christopher Ferry, 23, of Melfa, Va., was picked up in Ocean Pines and driven to Salisbury, where he was dropped off on Adkins Rd.

Ferry then handed the cabbie a couple of single dollar bills and left the cab. The deputy soon found Ferry walking nearby and confirmed he was the fare who had exited the cab without paying. The deputy also observed Ferry was visibly intoxicated. After determining the suspect had no other money to pay the fare, Ferry was arrested and charged with theft of services.

WOC Apartment Fire

WEST OCEAN CITY — A fire at a West Ocean City apartment has been attributed to a faulty dryer, according to the Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office.

Shortly after 5 p.m. last Sunday, the Ocean City and Berlin Fire Departments responded to a reported fire at an apartment over a garage on Keyser Point in West Ocean City. First arriving units reported heavy smoke conditions in the second-floor apartment. The fire was quickly extinguished and no injuries were reported. The apartment was not occupied at the time of the fire.

The Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office has confirmed the cause of the fire was likely a faulty clothes dryer although the investigation remains open. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Fire Marshal’s Office at 410-632-5666.
