Worcester’s Pilchard Commits to Stanford

BERLIN- Worcester Prep announced this week girls’ varsity lacrosse standout goalkeeper Maddie Pilchard has verbally committed to attend and play lacrosse in 2014 at Stanford University.

Pilchard, a rising senior at Worcester Prep, is the outstanding goalkeeper for the Mallards’ highly successful girls’ varsity lacrosse program. Following the 2013 season, Pilchard was selected to the Eastern Shore Independent Athletic Conference (ESIAC) 1st Team All-Conference Team. With Pilchard in goal, the Mallards went 13-2 during the 2013 season and captured the ESIAC championship. Pilchard said this week she was noticed by Stanford during a tournament last year.

“When I was a sophomore, I went to a lacrosse tournament in Richmond and one of the coaches spotted me,” she said. “It is such an honor for me to be recruited by Stanford.”

In addition to her prowess in athletics, Pilchard certainly has the academic credentials for Stanford. She is a member of the prestigious Cum Laude Society, the National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society. Consistently on the WPS Headmaster’s Academic List, Pilchard, upon her graduation from Worcester Prep in 2014, will have completed all of the school’s advanced placement courses.

Pilchard is also the sports editor for the yearbook, a member of the school chorus and is active in dramatic presentations. Pilchard said she sees Stanford as the first step toward a career as a pediatric neurologist working with Doctors without Borders. When not at school, Pilchard plays for the Greene Turtle Lacrosse Club and works out three to four times a week at Youth Exercise Services. She also volunteers at PRMC and the Holly Center.
