Decatur’s Whigham Bound for Francis Marion

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur standout student-athlete Tori Whigham will take her talents to the next level at Francis Marion University next year, the South Carolina school announced this week.

Francis Marion University this week announced Whigham, a recent Decatur graduate and standout soccer player, is part of the school’s exciting incoming class this fall. As a senior last fall, Whigham tallied 17 goals and dished out 11 assists while helping the Seahawks put togehter an impressive 11-2-1 record.

Whigham was a three-time All Bayside Conference player and was twice named to the first team. She was Decatur’s MVP in 2012 and posted career numbers of 46 goals and 26 assists. She also played tennis and ran track at Decatur and was a member of the school’s National Honor Society. Francis Marion head coach Frank Pitt had high praise for one of his newest recruits.

“Tori is a very good forward and midfielder,” he said. “She is a support player and will add a lot to either our midfield or front line. She is a very technical player who is comfortable on the ball and her height allows her to win balls in the air, which will add a different dimension to our squad.”
