Oxford Student Awarded Annual Sacca Scholarship

Oxford

OCEAN CITY — On behalf of the F. Michael Sacca Scholarship Committee, members of the Ocean City Fire Marshal’s Office presented a $1,000 scholarship check last week to Daniel Broskey of Oxford.

The scholarship fund, created by and named for Deputy Fire Marshal Mike Sacca, was established after Sacca lost his battle with colon cancer in 1991.

“Mike [Sacca] believed that fire prevention was a 365-day a year job,” said Committee Chairman/Captain Josh Bunting. “His family felt that he wanted to maintain the ideals he established and preserve his native Ocean City. This scholarship fund perpetuates the post-graduate study of fire science and we believe he would be thrilled to know he is helping the future of young firefighters.”

The scholarship, which is funded by donations of citizens and the Ocean City Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, fields applications from some of the best and brightest young men and women as they enter their fire service careers. Broskey, an honors student at Saints Peter and Paul High School and member of the Oxford Fire Company for the last four years, is pursuing a degree in Fire Protection Engineering at the University of Maryland College Park, a leading institution in the field of fire science and engineering.
