OCEAN CITY — The Dew Tour Beach Championships held their debut Surf Shop Showdown presented by Ron Jon at the Ocean City Inlet last Thursday night, highlighting Ocean City’s best local surfers.

Sam Deeley landed an air reverse in the tow-at contest to take the win.

“It’s incredible,” said Deeley of the Surf Shop Showdown. “I was so blessed to have the opportunity to surf in this contest. I’m speechless. I’d love to see it happen again next year.”

Competing against his fellow Ocean City locals didn’t faze Deeley.

“We’re all friends,” he said. “We all love to surf in our hometown on our home break.”

The judges looked for high airs, rotations and grabs, as well as solid turns in the beach break. Deeley’s air reverse allowed him to stand out in a contest that brought local talent to the prestigious Dew Tour stage.
