Decatur Athletes Fair Well in State Meet

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur varsity track team members competed in the state championship meet last week and acquitted themselves well against some of the top athletes in the state.

Seven members of the Decatur varsity outdoor track team qualified for the Class 3A state championship meet last week based on their success in the regional meet. Each competed in various events and returned with good showings for the most part.

On the girls’ side, Katie Collins finished sixth overall in the pole vault with a top vault of eight feet, while Ameerah Lewis finished seventh in the shot put. On the boys’ side, Lucas Duker finished fifth in the high jump, while Zach Watters was sixth in the pole vault and Patrick Phillips was eighth in the shot put. The Decatur boys’ and girls’ teams each finished 27th overall among the 3A schools represented in the state championship meet.
