Nearly 2,500 Compete in Half Marathon

OCEAN CITY- The Island to Island Half Marathon and associated 5K race were held in and around the resort area last weekend with nearly 2,500 competitors combined in the two events.

Conditions were nearly ideal with clear skies and cool temperatures as just under 1,800 racers competed in the half marathon that began at the Inlet in Ocean City and concluded at Assateague Island. Another 666 racers competed in the 5K race on the Boardwalk. For the record, Lee Kauffman of Annapolis came in first in the half marathon, finishing in 1:16.42. David Vitek of Baltimore was second, while Kristen Lasko of Gaithersburg came in third overall and was the top female finisher.

The Top 10 locals in the half marathon included Chris Llinas of Ocean Pines (82); Alyson Brabitz of Ocean Pines (102); Ed Godfrey, Salisbury (104); Matt Penrose, Snow Hill (111); Lyndsey Kanski, Ocean Pines (137); Stephanie D’Ambrosio, Salisbury (145); Craig Heiland, Salisbury (165); Christopher Powles, Salisbury (179); Casey Hafford, Salisbury (188); and Robert Schroeder, Jr., Salisbury (195).
