Deborah Lynn Reilly

BETHANY BEACH, Del. — Deborah Lynn Reilly of Delray Beach, Fla. and Bethany Beach, Del. passed away Tuesday, April 9 in Delray Beach due to complications caused by pancreatic cancer.

She was born to Robert W. and the late Carol K. Reilly on Nov. 16, 1965 in Annapolis, Md. Debbie graduated from Severn School in Severna Park, Md. in 1983. She earned a degree in Business Administration from the University of Delaware in Newark, Del. in 1987 with a major in Finance and a minor in Economics.

Debbie was a successful entrepreneur who owned and operated businesses in Palm Beach County Fla. and Sussex County Del. Most recently in Fla., she was General Manager of Pineapple Podiatry LLC, a private medical practice that she operated with her sister, Dr. Elizabeth Reilly DPM. Debbie was also the owner of the two-story Key West-inspired office building located at 10 NE 2nd Street in Delray Beach where the medical office is located. Before her family moved to South Florida, she was General Manager of Peninsula Foot and Ankle Center P.A. from August 1997 to December 2004 that operated offices in Bethany Beach, Berlin Md. and Salisbury Md.

Her business interests in Bethany Beach were as varied as they were successful. Debbie was best known for her Shore Fun Amusement Center. After the untimely passing of her mother, Carol, in September 2004, Reilly family members moved to Florida. Shore Fun Amusement Center then became Arnie’s Arcade. Before Mango’s restaurant was constructed on the Bethany Beach Boardwalk, Debbie, along with sister Elizabeth, operated the Holiday House restaurant, also known as Bethany’s, for its final year.

Debbie earned the respect of her peers and those who interacted with her in her role as a general manger of multiple businesses and medical offices.

Debbie’s political career is considered to be a piece of Bethany folklore. When she ran for Bethany Beach Town Council, very few insiders thought that she would be able to actually win the 1998 council race. In previous town council meetings, she was admonished to run for election if she thought she could do a better job by getting things done more efficiently. That challenge was all it took to get the Reilly team rolling. Aided by her family and a few others, she mailed letters, pounded on door and communicated the fact that as a businessperson, she was a “fiscal conservative practitioner.” She beat the odds and won the Bethany Town elections.

Debbie was a happy, cheerful and approachable person who people instinctively trusted. On many occasions, complete strangers would share details of their life with Debbie because they believed that she was a caring, sensitive and trustworthy person. The loves of her life were her niece, her sister, her mom and her dad.

In Bethany, she was on the Board of Directors and Board Secretary of the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce from 1997 to 2002. She was also a Budget Committee Member and Parking Committee Member for the Town of Bethany Beach from 1996 to1998.

In Delray Beach, Debbie was a Board Member for Pineapple Grove Main Street from 2005 to 2007. In 2004 she received the “Volunteer of the Year” award for her Christmas Program and her continued support of the Caring Kitchen, a local Outreach Program providing meals and service to needy families.

In Ocean City, Md. Debbie was a Marketing and Project Manager for East Coast Promotion & Research Group and Ocean City Advertising Agency.

She is survived by her family members living in Delray Beach including Robert, her father; Elizabeth, her sister; and Reilly Arena, her niece; life-long friend Judy Labashosky of Unionville, Pa.; and fiancé, Paul Jankovic of Bethany Beach and Boca Raton, Fla. She will be missed by her favorite dog Herbie and her companion cat Ty-Ty.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the American Cancer Society. Services are private.
