Seahawk Track Teams Soar In Home Meet

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity track teams turned in strong performances in a meet they hosted last week with athletes placing high in nearly every event.

The Decatur boys’ won their meet last Wednesday at home with 124 total team points, while Broadwater Academy was a distant second with 70 and Cambridge-South Dorchester was third with 63. The Seahawk boys placed athletes at or near the top of the standings in practically every event. In the 300-meter hurdles, Kyle Kelly finished first, while Ruben Ortega was fourth. Patrick Phillips finished first in the shot put and third in the discus. The Seahawks were also strong in the relays, taking first in both the 400 and the 1,600, while finished second in the 3,200.

In other events, James Phillips was third in the 110 high hurdles, while Ortega was sixth. James Mapp was sixth in the 100, while Nick Molitor was sixth in the 1,600. Sonny Aroh was second in the pole vault and Justin Hommel came in fifth. Jamel Showell finished fifth in the long jump. Kyle Kelly was second in the 400, while Dan Winters was fourth.

Ben Short was third in the high jump, while Colin Gaynor came in fifth. Showell was fifth in the triple jump and Jacob Gaddis was fifth in the 3,200. James Mapp finished second in the 200 and Lance Ward was second in the 800.

On the girls’ side, Katie Collins had a big day, taking first in both the pole vault and the long jump. Alexandra Saunders was first in the high jump, while Hannah Wilson finished third. The Decatur girls swept the relays, taking first in the 400, 800, 1,600 and 3,200. In other events, Emily Cook was fourth in the 100 hurdles, while Emily Kolarik came in fifth. Rebecca Lederman was third in the 100, while Amari Harmon was fifth. Ameerah Lewis finished second in the shot put, followed by Antonia Green in third.

Chloe FauntLeroy was second in the 1,600, while Alexandra Tushup was sixth. Tushup also finished third in the 3,200. In the discus, Lewis was second and Green was sixth. Emma Spack finished fourth in the 200 and FauntLeroy was third in the 800.
