Ocean City Confirmed As Opener For 2013 Dew Tour

OCEAN CITY –Alli Sports, a division of the NBC Sports Group, officially announced this week the dates and locations for the 2013 Dew Tour.

As done in past years, the Dew Tour’s Beach Championship will be the first stop in Ocean City, June 20-23, followed by the Toyota City Championships in San Francisco, Calif., Oct. 10-13, and iON Mountain Championships in Breckenridge, Colo., Dec. 12-15.

“The Dew Tour is about celebrating action sports and providing athletes and the industry with a world-class platform for progression and creativity,” said Kenny Mitchell, General Manager of the Dew Tour. “We want all of our fans – whether tuning in through broadcast, online, or on-site at the events – to celebrate with us and be inspired by the sports, the music and the action sports culture.”

Last year, the Dew Tour enjoyed the highest per event attendance in its history. In Ocean City alone, the Dew Tour received over 93,000 people attending the free event over the weekend.

Following a successful 2012 season, Dew Tour continues with three large-scale, premium events that will reach consumers across broadcast, digital and consumer activation platforms.  The event remains committed to working with athletes and industry leaders to drive progressive disciplines and formats while creating groundbreaking courses, a press release stated.

This season, Dew Tour will debut The Dew Tour Showcases, a series of events that will recognize key lifestyle elements of action sports, such as art, photography and film, and celebrating progressive and transcendent work in each field.

The Dew Tour’s stop in Ocean City features summer sports of skateboarding and BMX, with additional competitions of surf. The Dew Tour’s exclusive Streetstyle discipline for skate and BMX will continue in 2013, delivering an unprecedented platform for originality and innovation.

Dew Tour events are premium action sports and lifestyle festivals combining the best in action sports competitions along with the Dew Tour Experience, live music performances and lifestyle showcases.

Last year’s live music in Ocean City started on Friday night with Theophilus, followed by Lupe Fiasco. On Saturday afternoon, Rites of Ashes took the stage with The Perfects, DallasK, Two Fresh, and Wolfgang Gartner going into the evening. The line-up for live music in Ocean City this summer has not been released yet.

The Dew Tour is broadcast live on NBC and NBC Sports Network and streamed live on dewtour.com. The Dew Tour is also distributed on Universal HD, and internationally on Eurosport, Extreme Channel, Rogers Sports Network, TVA, and Globosat. Dew Tour partners include Mountain Dew (tour title sponsor), iON, Toyota, GoDaddy, Mongoose, National Guard, Paul Mitchell and Stride. More information can be found at www.DewTour.com.

Although Alli Sports officially announced the Dew Tours dates and locations this week, it has not been a secret the event was returning to Ocean City this summer. It was just a couple weeks ago Chris Prybylo of Alli Sports requested approval of the 2013 Dew Tour from the Mayor and City Council.

The Town of Ocean City and Alli Sports have formed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) following discussions on the impact to the town and the expectations of both the town and Alli Sports.

Last year’s event expenses were about $97,000 from the town. However, the Dew Tour returns the favor by resulting in positive economic impact from lodging, food beverage, recreation and other incidental expenditures related to the event, according to city officials.
