Seahawks Make Big Splash at Regionals

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity swimming teams were solid at the state 3A-4A East regional meet last weekend, with the girls finishing first as a team and the boys coming in a close second.

The Decatur girls finished first overall as a team with 303 total points, while Kent Island was second with 236 and Thomas Stone was third with 198.5. The Seahawk boys came in second with 289 total team points, just behind Queen Anne’s which finished with 294. Cambridge-South Dorchester was third with 225 points.

On the girls’ side, Hailey Williams finished second in the 200-meter freestyle, while Molly Wooten was fifth. Maria Zweifel was fifth in the 200 individual medley, while Kaley Mihavitz was 12th. Madison Tinus was third in the 50-meter freestyle, while Carly Dieckman was eighth.

Mihavitz was sixth in the 100-meter butterfly. Tinus was second in the 100-meter freestyle, while Marley Rakow was fifth. Williams came in second in the 500-meter freestyle, while Wooten was fourth. Jilian Wellen was sixth in the 100-mter backstroke, while Rakow was 14th. Dieckman was second in the 100-meter breaststroke, while Zweifel was eight. The Decatur girls did well in the relays, finishing fourth in the 200 medley, second in the 200 freestyle, and fourth in the 400 freestyle.

The Decatur boys also turned in top finishes in several events. Jake Middleton was first in the 200 freestyle, while Zack Keiser was eighth. Shayne Custodio was second in the 200 IM, while Tate Socha finished ninth. Chris Poole was sixth in the 50-meter freestyle, while Cory Campbell was 12th. Keiser finished eighth in the 100-meter butterfly, while Socha was 10th.

In the 100-meter freestyle, Collin Bankert was third and Poole finished 12th. Jake Middleton was first in the 500-meter freestyle, while Jeff Middleton came in sixth. Custodio finished first in the 100-meter backstroke, while Jeff Middleton was fourth. Bankert came in fifth in the 100-meter breaststroke. In the relays, Decatur was fourth in the 200 medley, first in the 200 freestyle and seventh in the 400 freestyle.
