New Director Named
BETHANY BEACH, Del. – The Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce recently appointed David Martin as its new executive director.
Formerly the vice president of the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina on Hilton Head Island, S.C., Martin is an entrepreneurial, creative and member-oriented executive with proven relationship building skills and marketing success in hospitality, tourism, and event planning.
Other notable experiences in Martin’s career include positions as executive director and chief development officer of the Arthritis Foundation’s Mid-Atlantic region. He also served as a cruise director with Holland America Line, directing onboard events, marketing, revenue and promotional activities internationally.
“A chamber can be the focal point in an active business community,” Martin said. “To come to an area my wife and I know and love and build beneficial partnerships that grow business for Chamber members is truly exciting.”

OCEAN CITY — Hospitality Partners, a Bethesda-based hotel management company, announced that Michael James has been named president and CEO, taking the leadership reigns from Michael M. Dickens who has been president of the company since its inception in 1986.
James has over 30 years of hospitality experience in managing a wide array of hotels, both independent and franchise, including Sheraton, Guest Quarters Suites, Embassy Suites, Doubletree and Marriott. James joined Hospitality Partners in 1989 and spent a decade in the Washington D.C. area as general manager of several properties in the District and Northern Virginia. With the company’s acquisition of the Carousel Oceanfront Hotel and Condominiums, James was named managing partner of the Ocean City resort in the spring of 2000. In 2011, James was instrumental in expanding the resort presence as a partner in the purchase and repositioning of Atlantic Oceanfront Inn and Coastal Palms Inn & Suites. Both properties now operate under the umbrella of the Carousel Group.
James serves as president of the Governor’s Economic Development Committee for Ocean City and is currently on the Board of Directors for Atlantic General Hospital, Ocean City Chamber of Commerce, Ocean City Tourism Advisory Board and the Industry Advisory Board for the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore. James served as Chairman of Maryland Tourism Development Board from 2003 through 2007.

New Director Appointed
SALISBURY — Coastal Hospice and Palliative Care is pleased to announce that Dr. Ghulam Waris, M.D. has been named as its Medical Director.
Waris has been with Coastal Hospice since 2007, serving as the attending physician for Coastal Hospice at the Lake inpatient facility, for home care patients, and for inpatient palliative consults at Peninsula Regional Medical Center. He is board certification in internal medicine, geriatrics, hospice and palliative medicine by the American Board of Medicine.
“Coastal Hospice is delighted to have Dr. Waris as its new medical director,” said Coastal Hospice President Alane Capen. “His professional expertise and ability to work well with multi-disciplinary team members will greatly benefit our patients and their families.”
Waris replaces Dr. David Cowall, who retired in December 2012. Waris also serves as the medical director for the Holly Center in Salisbury.
