Man Sentenced For Roommate Assault

SNOW HILL — An Ocean City man arrested on first-degree rape and other charges last March after sexually assaulting a former female roommate was found guilty this week in Circuit Court of first-degree burglary and was sentenced to two years in jail.

Oseas Osmin Mancia, 29, in March was charged with first-degree rape and other serious charges after allegedly breaking into a former roommate’s residence and ignoring her refusal of his sexual advances before sexually assaulting her. On Monday, Mancia was found guilty of first-degree burglary and was sentenced to two years in jail. Other charges, including third- and fourth-degree burglary, second-degree assault and fourth-degree sex offense, were merged with the first-degree burglary count for the purpose of sentencing.

On March 14, Mancia allegedly text messaged the victim asking to come over to her residence to speak with her. The victim consented and she and Mancia had a discussion in her room during which he allegedly told her he wanted to have sex with her. The victim refused and told Mancia she did not feel the same way about him, according to police reports. The victim told police she had similar conversations with Mancia in the past. According to police reports, Mancia then offered the victim money in exchange for sex and she again refused.

The victim then went into a private bathroom attached to her bedroom to take a shower and locked the door. While the victim was in the shower, Mancia opened a window to the bathroom from the exterior of the house and allegedly looked in the window. The victim told Mancia to go away, but Mancia allegedly told her he loved her so much he was willing to climb through the window, according to police reports.

Mancia allegedly climbed into the bathroom where the victim was taking a shower and tried to pull open the shower curtain, but the victim resisted, according to police reports. The victim told Mancia to leave several times and he complied.

However, when the victim got out of the shower, put on a bathrobe and went back into her bedroom, Mancia was allegedly standing there dressed only in his underwear. Again, the victim told Mancia to leave and that she wanted nothing to do with him, but at that point, Mancia threw the victim on the bed and assaulted her, according to police reports.

The victim continued to yell at Mancia to stop and asked him to leave, but he continued his aggression, according to police reports. He then left shortly thereafter. Ocean City Police obtained a warrant and Mancia was arrested and short time later.
