Decatur Boys Bow Out of State Regionals

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s boys’ varsity soccer team closed out its 2012 campaign with a 4-0 loss to River Hill in the state Class 3A-East region playoffs last week.

The Seahawks entered the region playoffs as the number-two seed and earned a first round bye. River Hill, meanwhile, entered the regional tournament as the seven-seed and squeaked by 10th-seeded Wilde Lake in the first round to earn a shot at Decatur. Despite playing at home, the Seahawks could get little going offensively and fell to River Hill, 4-0, to end their season.

Despite the early exit, the 2012 season was rather remarkable for Decatur, which finished the regular season with a 10-2 record. After winning its first two games of the season, the Seahawks dropped the next two before reeling off eight straight wins. During the regular season winning streak, Decatur had games where it scored eight, 13 and 19 goals at different times, but the high-powered offense struggled in the post season.

The Seahawks were blanked, 2-0, by Queen Anne’s in the Bayside Conference championship game. Decatur then got blanked by River Hill, 4-0, last week in the Class 3A-East region semifinals. When all was said and done, Decatur finished the 2012 season with a 10-4 record.
