Seaside 10 Returns for 20th Year

OCEAN CITY- The Seaside 10 and associated 5K set for tomorrow in Ocean City turns 20 this year and with the exception of a few tweaks in the courses due to Boardwalk reconstruction, the event remains largely unchanged.

Hundreds of running enthusiasts will gather in Ocean City this weekend for the annual Seaside 10 and 5K, which kick-off tomorrow morning at the Inlet in Ocean City. With balmy temperatures all week expected to continue this weekend, a large turnout is expected. Last year, nearly 500 runners braved high winds and driving rain, remnants of a Nor’easter that passed through the area days before the event.

This year’s races will largely resemble the previous years’ events will a few subtle changes in the courses to accommodate the ongoing Boardwalk project. The Seaside 10 will start at the Inlet parking lot and continue north on the Boardwalk to 22nd Street before heading up Baltimore Ave. From there, the course continues up Coastal Highway to the turnaround at 68th Street before following the same route back to a finish at the Inlet.

The 5K race will also start and finish at the Inlet parking lot and will be run entirely on the Boardwalk heading north to a turnaround at 16th Street and back down the Boardwalk to the finish line. As usual, the Seaside 10 and 5K race events will have a Halloween theme and many of the competitors will be dressed in costume. The Seaside 10 will begin at 9 a.m. with the start for the 5K set for 9:15 a.m. The event will conclude with an awards ceremony at the Inlet following the races.
