New Partnerships Increase Offerings At WOC Fitness
New Partnerships

OCEAN CITY — Through several partnerships in the community, one local gym is looking to offer members every service available in fitness, including access 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“We have everything that you’d want,” said West Ocean City Fitness (WOC Fitness) representative Tim Sebold.

Approaching their two-year anniversary this November, WOC Fitness began with the unique idea of anytime access for members.

“We do have people coming in at all hours,” said Sebold.

Members are able to access the gym at any hour on any day of the year, an uncommon convenience that WOC Fitness co-owner Pete Zemo said he decided on due to popular demand.

“A lot of people asked about it,” he said.

After spending most of his life as a doctor, Pete Zemo retired to Ocean City with his wife and co-owner Bonnie Zemo. Retired life was nice but far from thrilling, according to Bonnie Zemo, spurring the couple into the gym business.

Though they had operated other gyms before founding WOC Fitness two years ago, the couple both felt that the current location is where they really hit their stride and created something that appeals to fitness rookies and lifelong gym rats alike.

“You can do it all,” said Pete Zemo.

Besides the location just outside of Ocean City on westbound Route 50, the gym has partnered with nearby Pole Power, Atlantic Health and Fitness, Ocean Pines Recreation and Parks and Walk on Water Paddleboard to create a fitness network that runs the spectrum as far as workout choices.

“We do have the traditional stuff from yoga to spin class,” said Sebold, who also highlighted the less conventional opportunities like paddle boarding and self-defense classes.

While the partnerships with other organizations allow WOC Fitness to offer members a lot of options, Sebold pointed out that the gym itself is a rewarding and accessible experience.

“It’s a great environment … this is a local’s gym,” he said.

Bonnie Zemo added that, besides being open to members at any time, WOC Fitness also offers onsite childcare from 8 a.m.-noon and 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on weekdays as well as 8 a.m. to noon on weekends.

Another important point that both the Zemo’s and Sebold touched on is the trust they put in their trainers.

“One of our prides is the experience of our trainers and instructors,” said Pete Zemo, adding that all are “screened very thoroughly.”

The trainers are on hand to help ease newcomers into the gym, he continued, advising all rookies to “be cautious” and avoid going overboard on day one. Bonnie Zemo noted that WOC Fitness also has a nutritionist and offers classes outside when the weather permits, all aimed at crafting a fun and impactful fitness program for members.

“I think this is going to work so well,” she said.

Already possessing a number of growing business relationships with other gyms in the community, Sebold said that WOC is always on the lookout for more partnership opportunities that would enhance the fitness experience for members.

It is because of those partnerships and the commitment from WOC staff that programs are available for anyone at any age or fitness level, said Pete Zemo.

“You’re never too old,” he said.
