Fenwick Island Store’s Inventory Always Growing And Changing

OCEAN CITY – While driving on Coastal Highway through Fenwick Island it’s easy to spot Holly’s Treasure Chest with a wide array of beach chairs, umbrellas, floats and toys displayed out front but a venture inside will reveal the true meaning behind the name.

Holly’s Treasure Chest was located on 15th Street in Ocean City for about three years but moved across the Delaware line to Fenwick Island last summer. The property is family owned and Holly Barmack and husband, Jay, decided to give the space a whirl of the retail world.

“We are having a blast, it’s a lot of fun, and that is the main reason my husband and I are doing it, we love and enjoy doing things together and trying new things,” Barmack said.

The store did not open its doors until the end of last season and thanks to their customers who have pointed them in the right direction they have now taken on a much larger inventory.

“What sets us apart is that fact that we listen to people and we do our best to help them,” Barmack said. “We are getting things in here because they are coming in and asking for them.”

Upon walking inside of Holly’s Treasure Chest, a visitor takes on the store’s antique collection that is hand selected from yard sales, auctions, estate sales and eBay. The collection ranges from Christmas décor, vintage toys and board games to stein mugs, furniture, baseball cards and old time comic books and albums, plus much more.

“We have always gone to yard sales looking for collectibles and then we moved up to bigger auctions and antique sales,” Barmack said. “My husband, I call him a picker because he finds some really cool stuff to put in here.”

As you move from one room to the next, the products progress in time and not only can you find a treasure from back in the day but Holly’s Treasure Chest has a wide assortment of beach ware, towels, toys, inflatables, clothing, souvenirs, gifts and items for sports fans.

Holly Barmack has found that there is a void to be filled for Fenwick Island souvenirs and has created a section in the store specifically for the local visitors to take something home branded Fenwick Island and Ocean City alike.

Football season is here and Holly’s Treasure Chest has taken on aisles of sports merchandise, including memorabilia, glasses, mugs, clothing, flags, décor, and, of course, boogie boards.

Holly’s Treasure Chest’s variety of body boards spreads across the entire front wall of the store and boarders can choose from any style ranging in price from $7 to the most expensive board, the Wave Skate.

“Prices are great here,” Holly Barmack said. “We are new so we try to keep everything low … and we want people to come here and want to shop here.”

The clothing section, which also includes an entire wall of beach chairs and umbrellas, was added to the back of the store this past winter and this year fitting rooms are to come.

“It is slowly but surely coming along,” Holly said.

Holly Barmack, who used to own her own cleaning business, never imagined being where she is today with her treasure chest. They have found the Fenwick Island business community welcoming and enjoy being a part of it.

“I had hopes but it is a blessing,” she said. “I wasn’t sure what to expect and the people have just been wonderful. You have your ambitions and your desires and your dreams but you don’t know how it is going to turn out until you get there.”

Holly’s Treasure Chest is open year-round. The current hours of operation are 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
