BERLIN — Maryland Coastal Bays Program (MCBP) is the first non-profit organization to receive a donation from a new innovative local company called Free Lance Art Party (FLAP).

FLAP has a unique product approach beneficial to many. FLAP collects art from talented unknown artists and introduces it to the public through their apparel. An artist whose work is chosen for one of their products receives $200 and a sample of the product. For every item sold, a portion of profits are then donated to a non-profit organization that helps benefit different causes.

“Our goal is to invite your art to the party,” explains co-founder Denny Riordon.  “We are looking for original, raw, and creative art from unknown artists, musicians, surfers, skateboarders and anyone with inspired talent. We want to support and market this stylish art and build the reputation of artists around the world and are making this possible by refashioning innovative designs into tangible, mobile pieces of apparel.”

The first artist selected for the apparel line was Daniel Evans, who created the design for the “Ol’ Bay” tee shirt.

Daniel Evans, born and raised in Oregon, is the son of a computer tech teacher. He has tinkered with computers and cameras since he can remember and found skateboarding at the age of 13. Skateboarding brought every element of his life together, unifying skateboarding, computers, and his camera into a lifestyle. He began creating videos and digital art and it quickly became his passion.

Since the Ol’ Bay design incorporated a Maryland Blue Crab, FLAP chose the MCBP as its charity of choice for this particular piece as MCBP works with many partners throughout the watershed to protect the bays behind Assateague and Ocean City.

The Ol’ Bay shirts are currently available at all three Quiet Storm Surf Shops and at All South Moon Under locations.

For those interested in submitting artwork to FLAP, go to its Facebook page for details. They are taking all types of art, but the criteria for purchasing  artwork is based on what the retail buyers are looking for. So don’t be offended if they don’t buy your art. Just keep sending it in.

The company is inspired by the action sports industry, which includes surfing, skateboarding, and snowboarding etc. They are also obsessed with the retro and vintage style that represents the 50’s 60’s 70’s and 80’s. These are their passions but they want you to share yours as well through the form of art.

FLAP is a family-owned and company based out of Ocean City. They are all surfers, skateboarders, snowboarders, photographers and artists in their own way and are looking for as many artists as possible to join the party.
