OCEAN CITY — Terri Parsley’s dream of living and working at the beach is now a reality with the opening of her new venture Salon by the Bay in West Ocean City.

Parsley is a nail technician from Pasadena, Md., where she owned a nail salon, Nails by the Bay, for nine years, but she always had high hopes of moving to the beach.

Parsley vacationed in Ocean City since she was a child and owned a vacation home in Ocean Pines for the last 11 years. She finally made her dreams come true when she moved to Berlin permanently two years ago.

“I have always wanted to move to the beach,” Parsley said. “I didn’t know for sure I was actually going to do this, but we moved here and I decided to open up a full-service salon instead of just a nail salon.

Salon by the Bay has had a makeover of its own from the former accessory store it once was to now resemble the beach life from the different shades of blue paint to pictures of beach scenery on the walls.

“The atmosphere is very relaxing but yet fun,” Parsley said.

Salon by the Bay has taken on a professional and experienced staff that consists of manager David Vogelsang, receptionist Francine Oliver, master stylist Sandy Beauchamp, master cosmetologist Manette McElroy, cosmetologists Jessica Beach and Krista Ramcharron, esthetician Pam Kyger, and the nail technicians are Parsley and Jody Saia, who has worked with Parsley for 15 years at Nails by the Bay and travels from Pasadena to work at the new location.

The salon offers a wide variety of services for hair, skin, nails and body for men, woman, and children alike, along with affordable prices.

Services include haircuts, coloring, highlights, perms, and updo’s. Also, manicures with CND shellac, OPI gelcolor, acrylics, and for safety all acrylics and gel nails are filed by hand files, not electric drills. Pedicures are done in massage chairs with foot tubs.

Facials and peels are also offered for all skin types, as well as waxing, chair massages, and spray tans.

“We have a personal touch, all of the staff is professional, and they have been doing their trade for a long time,” Vogelsang said.

As the salon works its way into the future, Parsley and her staff have plans to further their education by attending classes regularly in Baltimore. She also hopes to grow the salon and her staff.

Salon by the Bay is conveniently located on Route 611 in Assateague Square, not five minutes south of Route 50. It’s open Monday and Tuesday 10 a.m.-5p.m, Wednesday and Thursday 10 a.m.-7 p.m., Friday 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and closed on Sundays.

Early or late appointments can be made upon request. Specializing in bridal or children’s parties, group appointments can also be made by request.

Today, June 22, Salon by the Bay and the Greater Ocean City Chamber of Commerce will be holding a ribbon cutting ceremony at 5 p.m. Appetizers and refreshments will be served, and there will be drawings for gift baskets, products, and gift certificates.

“Everyone is welcome to join,” Parsley said.

The week following the grand opening, June 22-29, the salon will be offering 15 percent off all services.
