Seahawks Drop Out with Loss to Lions

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s boys varsity lacrosse team’s magical season ended with a dramatic 12-11 loss to Queen Anne’s in the District 8 sectional of the state’s Class 3A-2A region tournament.

The Seahawks beat Kent Island, 10-9, in the Bayside Conference title game last week and earned a number-two seed in the District 8 sectional of the 3A-2A East tournament. After both teams got a first round bye, Decatur hosted Queen Anne’s at home last Friday in the second round and fell to the Lions, 12-11, in another classic in what has been a season of classics for the Seahawks.

Curtis Snyder led Decatur with four goals, while Johnny Moore had three goals and three assists and Erik Geiser pitched in three goals. Going into the region tournament, everything pointed to a third rematch between Decatur and Kent Island, which handed the Seahawks their only loss of the regular season back on March 28 before avenging the loss in the conference championship game. Decatur also beat Queen Anne’s in the regular season meeting, 9-6, back on April 11.

After the loss to Kent Island in March, Decatur ran off nine straight wins to improve to 10-1 on the regular season, then avenged the loss to the Buccaneers in the Bayside title game. Kent Island beat Queen Anne’s this week to reach the 3A-2A East region final.
