Decatur Earns 3-Seed in 3A-East Tourney

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity baseball team drew a number-three seed when the state 3A-East region brackets were released this week and could be on a collision course with season-long nemesis Bennett down the road.

The Seahawks lost to the Clippers, 3-2, in an extra inning nail biter in the penultimate regular season game last week before routing Indian River in the finale. Decatur earned a number three seed in the 3A-East tournament and will play the winner of the first round game between Annapolis and Centennial. Bennett, meanwhile, went on to win the Bayside title and earned the top seed in the 3A-East.

If the Clippers and Seahawks advance as expected, the two teams could meet again for a third time in the state playoffs. Bennett handed the Seahawks their first loss of the season, 4-0, back in mid-April and edged Decatur again, 3-2, last week.

Meanwhile, the Decatur varsity softball team earned a number-seven seed when the state 3A-East brackets were released this week and will face 10th-seeded Centennial in the first round at home. If the Seahawks get past Centennial, they will likely face second-seeded Reservoir in the second round.
