Worcester Schools Get Early Close Date

NEWARK — With one of the mildest winters in recent memory resulting in no inclement weather closures, Worcester County Public Schools will close three days earlier than anticipated this year.

The last day of school for Worcester County Public School students will be Friday, June 8. Thursday and Friday, June 7 and 8, will be half-days for all students. Lunch time will be scheduled into the half-days. Each school will inform parents of dismissal times, and bus transportation will operate accordingly.

Worcester County Public Schools add three inclement-weather days onto the end of its school calendar. If the days are not used, they are subtracted from the end of the school year. Although schools were closed on August 29, 2011, due to the effects of Hurricane Irene, the Interim State Superintendent of Schools approved a waiver request from the Board of Education for this closure. As a result, three days were subtracted from the end of the 2011-2012 school calendar, making the last day of school on June 8.
