Seahawks Vie for 9th Straight Title

BERLIN- While Stephen Decatur’s varsity wrestling team came up a little short state Class 4A-3A East regional dual meet, the Seahawks have another excellent opportunity to build on its remarkable record when it vies for its ninth straight Bayside Conference tournament championship this weekend.

The Seahawks got off to a good start in the regional duals last week, beating South River, 32-21, in the semifinals. However, Decatur fell to River Hill, 39-27, in a tight match in regional dual championship. After the meet was postponed on Wednesday because of inclement weather, the regional duals were moved to Thursday. Decatur led River Hill 21-0 early, but the Hawks pulled away for the 39-27 win in their home gym. River Hill later lost to Urbana, 36-28, in the 4A-3A regional dual title match.

However, the Seahawks will have a shot at redemption this weekend when they seek their ninth straight Bayside Conference tournament championship. Decatur also hopes to avenge its loss to Parkside earlier this month and a win in the conference tournament would settle some old scores.

Decatur is finally healthy after some mid-season injuries and will have the A team on the mats this weekend in the conference tournament. Although they are subject to change, the preliminary brackets were released this week. At 106, Decatur’s Nate Rosenblatt will have a first-round bye and face the winner of the match between North Caroline’s Brandon Eaton and Parkside’s Grant Twiford in the second round.

At 138, Seahawk Alex Schiffer will face Jonathan Hacker of Colonel Richardson in the first round. Decatur’s Andrew Boradaille earned a first-round bye at 145 and will face the winner of Mike Brown of Easton and Ryan Spake of Kent Island.
