Seahawk Track Teams Soar at Regionals

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s varsity indoor track teams turned in good performances at the state Class 3A-East Region Meet this week, with both teams finishing in the top 10 and several individual athletes turning in strong performances.

The Decatur boys’ finished 10th overall as a team with 24 total points. Greg Petersen finished first in the high jump with a leap of 6’4” and earned 10 team points. Ian Bresnahan was sixth in the high jump and earned three team points. Petersen also finished sixth in the 55-meter hurdles and added four team points, while Spenser Cardenas was ninth in the 55-hurdles. Tyheam Purnell was seventh in the shot put and earned two team points and Christopher David was eighth in the 500, earning one team point.

On the girls’ side, Decatur finished ninth overall with 26 total team points. Chloe FauntLeroy was third in the 800, Layla Fowler was fifth in the 500, Christine Timko was fifth in the pole vault and Ameerah Lewis was fifth in the shot put. Other top finishes for the Decatur girls included Annie Brown, high jump (8th), Isabella Iampieri, 55-hurdles (8th), Antonia Green, shot put (10th), and Lauren Buckman, 1,600 (10th).
