Seahawks Sweep Bayside Track Titles

BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’ varsity indoor track teams swept the titles in the Bayside Conference championship meet last week and collected numerous individual championships along the way.

The Decatur boys finished first in the 13-team Bayside Conference field with 143.5 total team points, far ahead of second-place North Caroline, which finished with 76 team points, and Kent Island, which ended up in third with 56 points. On the girls’ side, the Seahawks soared over the competition with 152 total team points, more than enough for first place, while North Caroline was second with 77 and Bennett was third with 28.

In the individual competition on the boys’ side, Decatur’s Greg Petersen was first in the 55-meter hurdles, while Spenser Cardenas was third and Tyler Coppinger was sixth. Petersen also finished first in the high jump, while Ian Bresnahan was second and Lucas Duker was seventh. Kyle Kelly finished first in the 300, while James Mapp was second.

Mapp and Kelly also tied for fourth in the boys’ 55-meter dash. Christopher David was second in the 500, while Lance Ward finished third and Dan Winters was fourth. In the 800, it was Ward finishing second, followed by David (6th) and Winters (7th). Zach Elmer finished fifth in the 1,600, while Ben Rakowski was seventh. Rakowski also finished sixth in the 3,200, while Kevin Herbert was 10th.

In the pole vault, Zachary Watters finished second for Decatur, while Justin Hommel was fifth and Ta’Shawn Collins was seventh. Tyheam Purnell was third in the shot put for the Seahawks. The Decatur boys did well in the relays, finishing first in the 4×800 and second in the 4×400.

For the Decatur girls, Jessica Galuardi was first in the 55-meter hurdles, while Isabella Iampieri finished third. Layla Fowler was first in the 500, while Ravyn Saunders finished fourth. Fowler also finished second in the 300, while Annie Brown was fourth. Chloe FauntLeroy was first in the 800, while Saunders finished fifth. FauntLeroy was second in the 1,600, while Lauren Buckman was sixth. Buckman also finished fifth in the 3,200, while Anastasia Priest came in seventh. The Decatur girls were also strong in the relays, finishing first in the 4×800, second in the 4×400 and third in the 4×200.

In the field events, Decatur’s Annie Brown finished first in the high jump, while Alexandra Saunders was third and Emily Kolarik was eighth. Christine Timko finished first in the pole vault, while Ashley Hrebik was second and Katherine Blosveren was sixth. Ameerah Lewis finished first in the shot put, while Antonia Green was fourth.
