Phone Scam Warning

BERLIN — The Worcester County Sheriff’s Office this week is warning local residents of an ongoing telephone scam in which the suspect or suspects are representing themselves as lawyers and claiming the victims have defaulted on loans.

According to the sheriff’s office, the suspects are relentless and call their potential victims several times demanding payment and further personal information. The phone number that has repeatedly shown up on victims’ caller identification is 213-550-2032.

The sheriff’s office is reminding local residents not to give out any personal information over the phone. Anyone with outstanding loans that feels they might have been a victim of the scam is urged to contact their lender to check on the status of their loans. Anyone with questions is urged to contact their local law enforcement agency.
