Performance Recognized

OCEAN CITY — NRT, LLC, recently recognized Realtor Peck Miller of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage-104th St. for “having achieved an outstanding quarterly performance, ranking in the nation’s Top 1,000 Sales Associates for the third quarter”.

NRT’s vast network includes 750 sales offices, 5,100 employees and 45,000 sales associates. Accomplishing top sales in a soft economy is no small feat.

“It’s easy to become complacent when confronted by market forces that seem beyond our control. What I admire most about [Miller’s] achievement is that he demonstrated the commitment to service and the professionalism to succeed in spite of a challenging business climate,” said NRT President and CEO Bruce Zipf.

Miller began his real estate career in 2000, achieving Rookie of the Year. Other awards followed, including the Leadership Team Medal (over $74 million in sales), Commercial Agent of the Year and the 2010 NRT Top 1,000 Sales Associate, ranking 738 among 45,000 realtors across the country.

PRMC Expansion Eyed

SALISBURY — On Monday, Jan. 16, at 10 a.m., Peninsula Regional Medical Center will break ground for one of the Medical Center’s most important construction projects: the expansion and renovation of the operating rooms that make up the Surgical Services department.

This three-year undertaking will dramatically increase the size of Peninsula Regional’s operating rooms — improving patient safety and quality of care, bringing maximum space for minimally invasive surgery, and streamlining procedures for staff. There are 16 operating rooms in the Medical Center’s Surgical Services Department. The original rooms were constructed 35 years ago.

Each operating room will be enlarged from 400 square feet per room to 600 or more; four of the ORs will be 800 square feet. The expanded size will permit greater access to the da Vinci Surgical System Robot, which allows surgeons to perform minimally invasive and robotic prostate, bariatric and GYN surgery with a precision not before possible with even the most skilled human hand. The da Vinci robot is only able to be accommodated in two of the current operating rooms.

The estimated cost is $17,955,500. The PRMC Foundation is in the midst of a capital campaign, co-chaired by Leighton Moore and David Rommel, to help raise $3 million to fund this important renovation project.

The project will include the construction of a two-story, 17,520-square-foot addition to the existing Surgical Services Department to accommodate the larger ORs, and renovation of 13,300 gross square feet of existing hospital space. Heating, ventilation, air conditioning and power upgrades are also part of the renovation.

Surgical services will not be disrupted by the project. Phase 1, during which four operating rooms and a supply room will be constructed, is projected to take 12-18 months. Phase 2, in which existing ORs will be dismantled and replaced in steps so as not to disrupt scheduling, will take 24 to 32 months to complete.

The overall layout of the project is efficient and will increase the footprint of the OR by 41% while increasing staff walk time by only 3%.
