John W. Martin
BERLIN — John W. "Pop" Martin, 92, died Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011 at his home in Berlin.
He was born on Jan. 4, 1919, in Chincoteague, Va. to the late John P. and Mary E. Martin.

He was a commercial fisherman who moved with his family to Ocean City, and with his cousin Harold E. Martin started Martin Fish Company.

Although well respected as a fisherman, his greatest joy came from teaching others about the bible, which he did faithfully and zealously for over 70 years.  He was an elder in the Ocean City Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Berlin.

He was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Laura B. Martin; his second wife, Evelyn J. Martin; his sister, Helena Lutz; his brother, Robert "Lewis" Martin; a grandchild, Brian Martin; and his daughter-in-law, Frances E. Martin.  

He survived by his children,  David Martin and his wife Lisa, Harold Martin and his wife Ann, Stephen Martin and his wife Lana, Jan Fernandez and her husband Alfred, Tony Martin and his wife Nina, Dawn Twilley and her husband Phil and Teresa Eutsler and her husband Jeff.

He also survived by his 21 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, a soon to be great-great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 24, 2011 at 1 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 212 West Street, Berlin, Md. 21811.

WILLIAMSPORT, Md. — Alice Margaret Salvatore, 88, of Williamsport, Md., passed away Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011, at Homewood of Williamsport.
Born Wednesday, Dec. 20, 1922, in Franklin County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles Herman Baker and the late Emma Potter Fitz Baker.
She graduated from Greencastle High School and Hagerstown Business College. 
She began working at Fairchild Aircraft, where she met her future husband, John, and together they owned and operated businesses in the hotel, grocery and restaurant industries, including the Eden Roc Motel in Ocean City and Main Street Market and Windy Hill Restaurant in Clear Spring. She retired in 1980. 
She was a member of St. John’s UCC in Clear Spring, Md., where she was active in Sunday school.
She was an active civic member of the Clear Spring community, volunteering in many areas. Alice was an avid Orioles fan and enjoyed playing cards.
She is survived by her sons, John R. Salvatore of Myersville, Md., William L. Salvatore of Ocean City and James L. Salvatore of Key West, Fla.; grandsons, Richard A. Salvatore, David M. Salvatore, and granddaughter, Lesley F. Eichelberger, all of Washington County; grandson, Dr. Steven Salvatore of Manhattan, N.Y.; great-granddaughters, Sarah Salvatore, Ellen Salvatore and Emma Eichelberger; and great-grandson, Joel Eichelberger.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Mildred Fitz Haynes, Nellie Fitz Burcham, Ruth Fitz Buss and Elizabeth Fitz; and brothers, Keller Fitz, Thomas Fitz, Clyde Fitz, Wilbur “Bill” Fitz, Harold A. “Gus” Baker and Ralph Baker.
Services were held and interment followed at Rose Hill Cemetery.
