Local Extreme Makeover Show Airs Dec. 9

SALISBURY — The long-awaited airing of an Extreme Makeover: Home Edition episode featuring a local family is set for next Friday, Dec. 9, at 8 p.m. on ABC.

This fall, the cast of ABC’s hit show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition knocked on the door of the Johnson-Goslee family in Mardela and advised the family it had been chosen as the latest recipients of a new home. The family of four had suffered a tragedy last Christmas Eve when 16-year-old Wyzir Johnson-Goslee got his arm caught in the miter saw while making repairs to his home and ultimately lost his arm.

For the first time in Extreme Makeover: Home Edition history, Wyzir was able to stay on site and help with the demolition of the family’s old home and the design aspects of his new home, while the rest of the family was sent to Santa Barbara, Calif. while the major remodeling effort was undertaken. Several local contractors and development companies participated in the project, most notably the Annapolis-based Fusion Companies.

On Oct. 4, the Johnson-Goslee family returned from California to the site of their new home as a crowd of about 1,500 supporters waited patiently to scream “Move that Bus,” the signature catch phrase of the show.

The family’s new home is roughly 2,700 square feet and has been rated by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) as “emerald certified,” which is the highest eco-friendly rating possible. The new Johnson-Goslee home is one of just six in Maryland to achieve the emerald designation.

Now, after nearly two months after the family moved into its new digs, the Johnson-Goslee episode is set to air next Friday, Dec. 9, at 8 p.m. on ABC with viewing parties slated around the region including Common Grounds in Salisbury and the Galaxy 66 Bar and Grille in Ocean City.

Viewers in the local area will be treated to a one-hour behind the scenes special including never-before-seen footage. The preview party at the Common Grounds in Salisbury gets underway at 7 p.m. next Friday, while a similar event at Galaxy 66 in Ocean City starts at 6:30 p.m.

“I’m extremely excited for the viewing parties and there’s going to be a lot going on from raffles, auctions of autographed items from the build and plenty of fun,” said Fusion’s Wes Sims this week. “It’s an exciting way to get everyone together that helped make this dream a reality and another opportunity for all of us at Fusion to say thanks. I don’t think we could ever thank these folks enough for their contributions to the build.”
