Juveniles Charged In Hunting Camp Burglary

BERLIN — Two local juveniles were arrested on theft and burglary charges last week after an investigation identified them as the alleged suspects in a break-in at a hunting camp in Berlin.

On Aug. 18, a Worcester County Sheriff’s deputy took an initial report of a burglary and theft from a remote hunting camp along Beaver Dam Creek in Berlin. Reported stolen during the robbery was a 12-foot fiberglass boat and motor, and electric trolling motor and battery, chest waders, a set of deer antlers, a duck mount, a Black Bear skin and several bottles of liquor.

Last Friday, detectives got a lead in the investigation, resulting in the identification of two juvenile suspects, a 15-year-old and a 13-year-old, both of Berlin. Detectives worked the case into the early morning hours last Saturday, resulting in the recovery of the deer antlers, the duck mount and the Black Bear skin.

Through the course of interviews with the two local teens, the location of the remainder of the stolen property was revealed. Around 11:15 a.m. last Saturday, the 12-foot fiberglass boat and the electric trolling motor and battery were recovered with the assistance of the Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP).

Later last Saturday afternoon, the chest waders and the battery charger were also recovered. All of the property initially reported as stolen was returned to the owner with the exception of several bottles of alcohol. The two juveniles were arrested and charged with theft and burglary before being released to their parents. The charging documents have been forwarded to Juvenile Justice for processing and adjudication in the future.
