Decatur Runners Finish 9th in Region Meet

BERLIN- Decatur’s varsity cross country team acquitted itself well at the state regional meet last week with both the boys’ and girls’ teams finishing ninth in the state Class 3A-East and one runner, Lauren Buckman, advancing to the state championship meet.

The Decatur girls finished ninth among the 12 teams entered in the 3A-East Region meet. The top finisher for the Seahawks was junior Lauren Buckman, who finished 11th with a time of 21:44:74. Buckman is the only Seahawk cross country runner to qualify for the state championship meet this weekend at Hereford in Baltimore County. Other finishers for the Decatur girls’ team included Anastasia Priest (38), Lauren Bodolus (46), Jordan Klebe (57), Layla Fowler (60), Rayvn Saunders (61) and Alexandra Saunders (63).

On the boys’ side, the Seahawks also finished ninth of the 11 teams entered in the regional meet, but did not qualify an individual runner for the state meet. The top finishers for Decatur included James Davidson (45), Tristan Peeples (57), Ben Rakowski (61), Chris David (62), Daniel Winters (63) and Kevin Herbert (72).
