Wicomico Hazardous Waste Collection Day Set

SALISBURY — Wicomico County officials this week announced Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day is set for next Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Newland Park landfill from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event is open to all residents of Wicomico County and participants are advised to bring a valid proof of residence, such as a driver’s license. The landfill will be accepting a wide variety of typical household hazardous waste including gasoline, oils, fuels, acids, cleaners, solvents, automotive fluids, chemicals, paints, and pesticides, for example. In addition, the landfill will be accepting other household wastes such a batteries of all kinds and smoke detectors, for example.

Landfill officials suggest that participants pre-arrange large loads. In addition, empty fuel containers will be returned upon request and that staff will help unload vehicles. Wicomico County Executive Richard Pollitt praised the annual event.

“Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day is another step in the right direction of preserving our beautiful county for future generations,” he said.
