Wicomico Mourns Council Member

SALISBURY- Wicomico County this week lost one of its long-standing public servants when Councilman Bob Caldwell, Jr., 70, succumbed after a long bout with cancer.

Caldwell served on the Salisbury City Council from 1992-1996 including a two-year stint as Council President from 1994-1996. In 2010, he was elected to the Wicomico County Council, representing District 4, which encompasses most of the Salisbury city limits.

Caldwell also served on the Planning and Zoning Commission, and was heavily involved in the Maryland Municipal League (MML) while in office. He was also a long-time Camden Neighborhood Association resident and served as chairman of the Salisbury Festival for several years.

“Bob was a friend who loved this city as much as anyone,” said Salisbury Mayor Jim Ireton, Jr. “Both a political advocate and opponent at one time or another, Bob made politics fun. He was never afraid to speak his mind whenever he felt necessary. I appreciated his advice after I became mayor in 2009 and most recently his brave votes on behalf of the public school system in the face of opposition from members of his own party. Bob will be sorely missed.”
