BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s boys’ varsity soccer team remained unbeaten this week, downing visiting Queen Anne’s, 3-1, on Tuesday after playing nearly the entire second half down a man.

The Seahawks jumped out to an early lead with two goals within a 24-second span in the first half when Erik Geiser and Zak Hoshino connected. The Lions applied constant pressure on the Decatur goal, but the Seahawk defense constantly repelled the Queen Anne’s attack. The Lions broke through with just over 20 minutes remaining in the first half to cut the lead to 2-1, which is how the first half ended.

Early in the second half, Geiser got tangled up with a Queen Anne’s player near the sideline and was ejected on a red card, forcing Decatur to play man down for the last 37 minutes of the game. Despite being down a man, the Seahawks continued put the pressure on the Queen Anne’s goal while the Lions tried desperately to tie the game.

Finally, with 2:48 remaining in the game, Decatur forward Jason Stitely, who had several opportunities during the second half, got by the last Queen Anne’s defender on a breakaway and fired a shot past the Lions keeper to settle the issue once and for all with the 3-1 win.

With the win, the Seahawks improved to 3-0 on the young season after beating Kent Island, 6-0, in the season opener and North Caroline, 4-1. The Seahawks will hit the road for a tough Bayside South game against Wicomico next Tuesday.
