Rescue Swimmers Make Ocean Save

OCEAN CITY — Ocean City Fire Department rescue swimmers pulled an unidentified and unconscious swimmer from the surf last Friday morning before the Ocean City Beach Patrol took their stands for the day.

Around 9:15 a.m. last Friday, the Ocean City Fire Department was dispatched to the beach at 61st Street for a reported water rescue. Ocean City Communications received a 911 call stating a body was floating in the ocean and a private citizen was attempting a rescue.

The investigation revealed a citizen attempting the rescue became exhausted and swam back to shore. Ocean City Fire Department rescue swimmers arrived on the scene and entered the water. Two rescue swimmers were able to successfully pull the victim from the ocean and began CPR. The victim was then transported to Atlantic General Hospital in critical condition although an update on his condition was not known as of mid-week.

The incident occurred around 9:15 a.m. last Friday, or about 45 minutes before the Ocean City Beach Patrol went on duty for the day. The Ocean City Fire Department this week reminded residents and visitors not to enter the water until the Beach Patrol is on duty.
