Heels and Reels Tourney a Big Hit

OCEAN CITY- Before the big boys hit the seas for this week’s White Marlin Open, lady anglers throughout the resort area enjoyed a big weekend with the Ocean City Marlin Club’s 3rd Annual Heels and Reels Tournament with winners in several categories.

The ladies-only tournament got underway last Friday with the first of two official fishing days. The crew on the “Reel Joy” made the biggest splash during the tournament, winning the Billfish Release Division and placing in two other categories.

The “Reel Joy” released four white marlin for 400 points to win the Billfish Release Division and earned $10,800. The “Big Oh” took the second place and $2,430 with three white marlin releases, while the crew on the “D.A. Sea” also released three whites and earned $1,620.

In the Tuna Division, it was the “Predator” taking first with a 55-pound yellowfin worth $5,648, while the “Moore Bills” was second with a 53-pounder worth $1,229. The “Predator” also took third in the division with a 51.8-pound yellowfin worth $819. The “Reel Joy” won the wahoo division with a 50.4-pounder worth $3,848.

In the Dolphin Division, the “Reel Chaos” took first with a 42.4-pounder worth $2,824, while the “Reel Joy” was second and the “White Lightning” was third. Taylor McCart was the Top Junior Angler with three white marlin releases.
