Jay Donald Connor
BERLIN — Jay Donald Connor, age 89, passed away peacefully, wrapped
in the arms of his daughter, on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011. He is survived
by his wife of 36 years, Gretchen Connor.
Born in Baltimore on April 5, 1922, he was the middle child of the
late William and Eleanor Connor. He was educated in Baltimore at St.
Paul’s School, Loyola University Maryland and University of Baltimore
School of Law. Together with his law partner, C. Arthur Eby, they formed
Colonial Title Company in Towson, Md.
As a child, Donald spent his summers on the Magothy River at his
family summer home, where he developed his love of the water. He had
sailboats from a young age and continued sailing through his adult life.
He spent many happy hours on his sailboats and held a Coast Guard
Pilot’s License.

Donald move to Ocean Pines in the early 90’s and was a member of the Community Church at Ocean Pines.

Along with his wife, he is survived by his son Jay and his wife
Bonnie; daughter, Margy; step-son, James; four grandsons; several nieces
and nephews; and a dear niece Nancy Primeaux and her family of Dallas,
Texas; sister, Eleanor Ricards and her husband Harold of Houston, Texas;
and sister-in-law, Nan Connor of Bel Air, Md.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011 at 11
a.m. at the Community Church at Ocean Pines, 11227 Racetrack Rd.,
Berlin, Md. 21811. Rev. Bill Sterling and Rev. Jay Hurley will be
officiating. Interment will be private.
Memorial donations may be made in Donald’s name to Loyola University

William C. Daehnke

YORK, Pa. — William C. Daehnke, age 94, died Friday, Aug. 5, 2011 at York Lutheran Home at Sprenkle Dive in York, Pa.

Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Charles Daehnke and
Agnes Fritz Daehnke. He was preceded in death by his wife Rita Curley
Daehnke.
Mr. Daehnke was a United States Army Veteran having served in WWII
and was a member of the VFW in Ocean City.  He had worked for many years
at Esskay in Baltimore, Md.
He is survived by a daughter-in-law, Lela Daehnke; his
grandchildren, Jennifer Daehnke Gunson and her husband John, James W.
Daehnke, Jr. and Charles Michael Daehnke and his wife Amy; eight great
grandchildren, Molly, Brady, Sarah, Jimmy, Jordyn, Jonathan, Charlie and
William. He was preceded in death by a son, James W. Daehnke and a
daughter, Bonnie Daehnke.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the
Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park
in Berlin.

Joan Frances Herman Rolfes
OCEAN CITY — On Aug. 3, 2011, Joan Frances Herman Rolfes passed
away at her home in Ocean City surrounded by her loving family after a
short illness.
She was born on Sept. 30, 1941 in Baltimore to the late John Louis
Herman Sr. and the late Helen Stafford Herman. She attended the
Institute of Notre Dame for 12 years before receiving her RN degree from
the St. Agnes School of Nursing. Over the years, she has served many
roles.
In addition to being a wonderful mother, she was an active volunteer at
Immaculate Heart of Mary, her parish and children’s school. She has been
a pre-school teacher, sewing instructor, small business owner, real
estate agent and a nurse at St. Agnes, Stella Maris, Sheppard Pratt, and
Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center where she retired in 2006.
Upon retirement, she moved to her home in Ocean City where she
enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, playing in
golf leagues, and reuniting with fellow alumni from Institute of Notre
Dame and St. Agnes. She was active as a volunteer for the Ocean City
Library, Play It Safe events and the Delmarva Irish American Club.
She is survived by her four loving children and their spouses, Karen
Rolfes Goodspeed and her husband Shawn, Pam Rolfes Keffer and her
husband Tim, John Paul Rolfes II and his wife Tina, and Michael Joseph
Rolfes; adoring grandchildren, Max and Quinn Goodspeed, Jill, Cory, and
Alexandra Keffer, Casey and Caroline Rolfes; sisters Helen Herman Miceli
and Barbara Herman Triplett; brothers John L. Herman Jr. and Michael S.
Herman; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her
son Joseph Rolfes, granddaughter Kylie Rolfes and brother Patrick
Herman.

A memorial service will be held at St. Ursula Church in Parkville, Md. on Friday, Aug. 19 at 11 am. Interment will be private.

with genetic disorders, named for her great niece. Donations can be

Francis E. Edwards

Frances Elizabeth Edwards

OCEAN CITY — Frances Elizabeth Edwards, 90, a seven-year resident of Ocean City and previously of Anne Arundel County, died on Aug. 1, 2011 at her daughter’s residence. 
She was born on June 14, 1921 in Annapolis to the late Harry G. and Cathryn VanWagenen.
Mrs. Edwards was a homemaker, and a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Berlin.  She was a skilled knitter with many blue ribbons from the Maryland State and County fairs.  She also enjoyed many other crafts. 
Mrs. Edwards is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Harold W. Edwards. 
She is survived by a son, Ronald L. Edwards Sr., of Deale Island, Md.; two daughters, Geraldine Pat Moler, of Ocean City, and Sharon J. Hall, of Mary Ester, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. 
Friends were permitted to call on Thursday, Aug. 4 at the Stallings Funeral Home, PA,  3111 Mountain Rd. Pasadena, where funeral services were held on Friday, Aug. 5 at 11:30 AM. Interment was in Glen Haven Cemetery.
