OCEAN CITY — A Finksburg, Md. man who escaped on Monday from the Somerset County Detention Center, where he was being held awaiting trial on numerous sex offense and assault charges, was captured on Monday morning at a bank in Ocean City.
Around 5:30 p.m. last Sunday, Maryland State Police (MSP) were called to the Somerset County Detention Center in Westover after prison officials notified them of an escape. The investigation revealed a prisoner identified as Scott A. Odham, 47, of Finksburg, Md., and scaled a fence at the facility and jumped in an awaiting car driven by his alleged girlfriend, identified as Ginger A. Rhodes, whose last known address was in Laurel, Del.
Odham was being held in the facility on numerous charges including first-, second-, third- and fourth-degree sex offenses, second-degree assault, unnatural or perverted practice and the sexual solicitation of a minor from alleged incidents from April to June. Maryland State Police and allied law enforcement agencies in Maryland and Delaware searched for Odham and Rhodes through the night on Sunday and early Monday morning.
The Maryland State Police Apprehension Team was contacted and assisted in the search. During the investigation, information developed that led detectives to a bank on 94th Street in Ocean City, where Rhodes was known to do business. Investigators from the State Police Apprehension Team set up surveillance in the area of the bank in Ocean City on Monday morning.
Around 11:30 a.m., a pick-up truck with three people inside, including Odham and Rhodes, pulled into the bank parking lot. After Rhodes went into the bank, MSP troopers converged on the truck and arrested Odham without further incident. Rhodes was arrested as she came out of the bank. The driver of the truck has not been charged.
Odham was taken back into custody and charged additionally with first-degree escape. He has been returned to the Somerset County Detention Center where he is being held without bond. A preliminary hearing on the escape charge has been set for Aug. 29. Meanwhile, Rhodes has been charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree escape, harboring a prison escapee and resisting arrest. She is now being held in Somerset on a $200,000 bond.
